As a first timer at Clerkenwell Design Week I had no real idea of what to expect. I can truly say it was a day filled with excitement, bold colours, bold products and gorgeous interior architecture (I loved the stripped back industrial nature of the Farmiloe building).
Each year a fantastic exposition is exhibited throughout the Clerkenwelll area of Central London. So, when I was invited to go along with the boss I wasn’t about to refuse!..especially with the promise of a beer afterwards!
Being 16 and new to the interior design universe, my excitement to be attending such a place was immeasurable, I was not disappointed.
The on-line map showed how many different events there were and we visited quite a number of fantastically modern showrooms before making steps towards the main Farmiloe building which seemed to be the Hub of the event. We were greeted by friendly staff who directed us toward a large barn like building. Running parallel to my left and right were beautiful arrangements of furniture and lighting lining each side.
As I entered the Farmiloe Building was amazed at the spectacle of a beautiful hanging display from #Foscarini using their latest #Tuareg lighting. This was combined with #Jaguar and some stunningly designed F-type coupes. (See image gallery below)
I had a really good chat with the guys at Foscarini about their latest products and lighting systems. I can say (even though I am new to all this stuff) I was highly impressed with the design and the lengths they had gone to ensure their LED bulbs were the most efficient, powerful and cost effective.
I had a great time talking to a lot of other manufacturers too and feeding back to them the pieces I enjoyed most. I wandered through the different floors, each one incorporating different aspects of design whether it be office Furniture or Lighting, General home furniture or just assorted pieces. Each floor filled with a marvellous array of unique furniture.
After taking in some of the sights of Clerkenwell, we decided to grab some lunch @thisissmiths in Smithfield. This was perfect timing as the rain came thundering down. We took refuge in the restaurant. Awesome place…awesome burger!
As the rain continued later that evening we made a dash for a party hosted by the @Poltronafrau Group. Although a little crowded a great atmosphere and again met with some new faces. As the night carried on we rounded it off with another drink or two at the Slaughtered Lamb and reminisced on a great day….I’m beginning to understand where most of the networking is done!!
Over all I was thrilled to be at Clerkenwell, I met many new faces and contacts, got some amazing shots and enjoyed being there to appreciate the furniture….and I got my beer at the end….#CDW2014 was a total success! Looking forward to #CDW2015
